Michelle Obama Memoir

“Writing Becoming has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.” Former First Lady Michelle Obama tweeted on Sunday, February 25th, talking about her new memoir Becoming reaching store shelves November 13th. It will be published by Crown, a Penguin Random House print, after acquiring the rights to it and another book from Former President Barack Obama.

Becoming follows her previous book American Grown, promoting healthy eating through history and healthy eating. Crown said in a statement the book will continue discussing her public health campaign, as well as touch on her time in the White House and motherhood. The book will be published in 24 languages, an audio tape recorded by Michelle herself, and a million copies donated in her family’s name to First Book, a nonprofit that provides learning material and books to children.

Though not much else is known about the memoir, it will chronicle her life in Chicago’s South Side as a child growing up. This memoir comes at a time when children and young adults are striving to achieve more.  As high school students march across the country demanding legislative change concerning our gun laws, the memoir will be riding on the courage and inspiration of what younger generations are fueled by. As she continues to promote healthy living and encouraging kids to go to school and stay educated, it will be important to be as honest and transparent in talking about her troubles and obstacles. Young people will want to connect with the little things, and what better person to have for a friend than Michelle Obama?

An international book tour will be announced around the time of the release of the book, planned to be global.
