Let Your Life Be Your Protest
So I wrote a post about distraction not too long ago, check it out here. But I wanted to address one specific distraction that is so prevalent, we don’t even realize it’s distracting—the media! Social media, TMZ, BET and Buzz News and whatever other media source you prefer, they are all huge distractions.
Don’t get me wrong when used right, media sources are great tools to educate and spread awareness on issues we should know of and of course keeps us all connected. I become anti mainstream media when I witness others forming opinions based on what popular culture says about it. The media will continue to perpetuate and feed us the same garbage, and we continue to take it in as face value. No, do your research.
It’s okay to share opinions on social media and debate on topics with respect, but make sure you are using your own mind and beliefs to formulate those opinions.
Educate yourself on the issues that are being discussed on social media and make sure the sources you are reading are credible before you regurgitate the information. It’s okay to share opinions on social media and debate on topics with respect, but make sure you are using your own mind and beliefs to formulate those opinions.
The media makes big bucks by playing on the emotions of the people. Notice we aren’t hearing too much about Black Lives Matter on social media because The Media hasn’t released a story yet to get you talking.
The point is not that we shouldn’t talk about it, the point is lets be honest in what we’re willing to fight for and fight for it everyday in your character, in your art, in your talent. We are all leaders in what what we value, so allow your purpose to protest for you each day. Don’t let it die out because the media hasn’t provoked you.
