Kimora Lee Simmons Spring Collection 2018
Kimora Lee Simmons. Does the name sound familiar? Although never forgotten, the model turned mogul has been under the radar for the past couple of years. Except for this fall when she showcased her Kimora Lee Simmons spring collection 2018 at NYFW. Okay, so let’s be honest, a show of hands who knew she was still designing? Yeah, me neither. That’s why I was shocked yet excited to hear about her collection.
The Kimora Lee Simmons line, not the be confused with KLS (which was an entire line of its own,) has been showcasing since Fall 2015. The model, mogul, and designer has come a long way since her days at Baby Phat. Her designs are mature and elegant. A recent trip to Morocco inspired her collection, which is class meets sophistication. Her collection of pantsuits, evening dresses, and beautiful blouses have a full-color palette. Everything from Moroccan inspired prints, to hues of pinks, oranges, neutrals and even royal blue.
Instead of a runway show, it was a performance exhibit. The models stood static on white boxes wearing the collection– changing the looks in 10 minute increments. I am a fan of this type of presentation because as a viewer you have the time to admire each gown. But what really made this body of work so special was the modeling debut of Kimora’s daughter Ming Lee Simmons–the 17-year-old who is the spitting image of her mother. She wore a feathered blue ombre cocktail dress. Yes, you read correctly, the modeling genes run strong in the family. Ming who had her first shot with Galore this year showcased her natural ability in front of the camera and her desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Refinery29 even reported how Simmons admits to being a fully supportive stage mom. Sitting and watching the entire team behind the scenes of her daughter’s shoot. It’s safe to say this is just the beginning of the duos launch back into the fashion industry. Here’s a few of our favorite looks; see the whole Kimora Lee Simmons collection here.
