Fall/Winter Editorial 2018 The ignominy to maintain curly-kinky tresses began decades ago and has manifested in the 21st century in micro-degressive patterns.  There is an overpowering  pressure to disguise the methodology behind our black crowns. Satin-silk bonnets and scarves, duck-clips, bobby-pins and flexi-rods are prohibited beyond our bedrooms or risk judgement of being ghetto. We fail to realize the gentle details required to care for black hair is a part of black culture and deserves to be illuminated. Big colorful…

The Zeal Life: ‘Access Not Granted’, A Fashion Narrative on the Sexual Vulnerability of Women

Spring/Summer 2019 Women since childhood are conditioned to modify their being in such a way to protect from sexual assault, harassment and degradation. Throughout the day women are aware–subconsciously even– of the measures needed to steer clear of uninvited attention or danger. At the gym, at school, catching Uber, going to work, walking to the car, even in the safety of homes, women must be aware they are a woman. This narrative teaches the male counterpart is the predator– women…

Still Point Arts: Selfie Identity at Arms Length, You’ll Never See Selfies The Same Again

When’s the Last Time You Took a Selfie? Now When’s the Last Time You Self Reflected? The term “selfie” according to Think Map Visual Thesaurus, was first spotted in 2002 on an ABC Online forum in Australia.  And over the past decade and a half has migrated its way through the world, the definition is “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.” (although it doesn’t have to…

Last Pieces of Vine City: Exploring The Intrusion of Urban Development On Black Historic Atlanta by Rose Smith

Last Pieces of Vine City Atlanta, the Southern Hollywood, is highlighted for its trendy lifestyle and affluent culture in the arts and nightlife, but like any major city, there are parts that are often neglected and hardly mentioned. A Culture of Perfectionism, 4 Traits That Reveal You are a Perfectionist & How It’s Hurting You

I use to say I was a perfectionist, not because I was. But when someone tells you they are perfectionists what they really want you to believe is that they are an expert at what they do and who they are, and they don’t want anyone to see anything less than that. What is disappointing about this phenomena is that there’s no such thing as perfect. So where there is perceived perfection, there is deception. In a microwave culture where…

The Zeal Life- My Favorite Summer One Piece

We only have a few more weeks of Summer, and I’m honestly not ready for it, so I ‘m going to soak up all the glorious sun while I can! I use to struggle with finding cute pieces during the summertime, that were also comfortable. This summer I finally nailed down the key formula to an outfit that is fashionable but won’t leave me sweating bullets–one pieces and oversized t-shirts. It sounds so basic, right? You have to make it your…

How to Be a Better Lover, 5 Ways to Love Without Conditions

How to Love Better

That is why relying on a source greater than us to teach us through life’s journey how to be a better lover should be a personal mission for us all.  The…
